What Field Service Software Really Costs: Per-User Pricing Compared
3 min readJobOpsPro
Starting prices hide base fees, tier upgrades, implementation, and per-job charges. Here is how to build an honest twelve-month number for any field service platform — and what JobOpsPro costs at the same headcount.
The price on a field service software website is almost never the price you pay. It is the smallest plan, at the smallest user count, before the module you need. Here is how to build a number you can actually budget against.
The six line items
1. Per-user seats. Some vendors charge the same for a technician and an owner. Some charge less for a "field" seat than an "office" seat. Count every person who needs a login, including the part-time bookkeeper. 2. Base platform fee. Common in mid-market platforms: a monthly fee before any seats are added. 3. Tier upgrade. Price the tier that contains memberships, inventory, and reporting if you need them — not the entry plan. 4. Implementation or onboarding. A one-time cost, sometimes a few thousand dollars, sometimes waived on an annual commitment. 5. Payment processing. Card and ACH rates differ meaningfully across platforms. On $80,000 a month in card volume, half a percentage point is $400. 6. Add-ons. Marketing tools, extra texting, phone integration, additional storage.
Build the twelve-month number
(seats x per-user rate x 12) + (base fee x 12) + implementation + estimated processing fees + add-ons = year one cost
Do this for every finalist at *your* headcount. Rankings often flip once the base fee and tier upgrade are included.
What JobOpsPro costs
Flat $25 per user per month. Every module. Unlimited customers and jobs. No base fee, no implementation charge, no annual contract.
| Team | Seats | Monthly | Year one |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 technicians + 1 office | 4 | $100 | $1,200 |
| 6 technicians + 2 office | 8 | $200 | $2,400 |
| 12 technicians + 3 office | 15 | $375 | $4,500 |
Nothing on that list changes when you turn on memberships, inventory, purchase orders, the customer portal, or email analytics — they are in the same plan as dispatch.
Three pricing traps to watch for
The entry-plan demo. You are shown a feature in the demo that lives two tiers above the price you were quoted. Always ask which plan the demo environment is on.
The per-job or per-invoice fee. Reasonable when volume is low, painful in your busiest month, which is exactly when cash is tightest.
The annual commitment discount. Real savings if the fit is right. An expensive twelve months if it is not. Month to month costs a little more per month and is worth it during year one.
Questions to ask every vendor
- What is the total monthly cost for exactly this many users on the plan that includes everything I listed?
- Is there a base platform fee, and is it in that number?
- What is the one-time implementation cost, and what does it include?
- What are the card and ACH processing rates?
- What is the contract term, and what does a mid-term downgrade look like?
- If I leave, what data can I export, and in what format?
Get those answers in writing, run the twelve-month math, and the decision usually makes itself.
